Types of Visas for Cyprus – Options for Staying in Cyprus

There are several ways to obtain a residence visa for Cyprus. The process varies depending on your personal needs and the type of visa you’re applying for. Here are the main options:

Pink Slip Visa

The Pink Slip visa is intended for non-EU nationals who do not hold a European passport. It is a residence visa without a work permit and must be renewed annually.

Requirements include:

  • A permanent place of residence in Cyprus (rental or purchase contract, with utility bills in your name).
  • Opening a local bank account and depositing sufficient funds to cover your living expenses. The required amount is €24,000 for the main applicant, plus 20% for a spouse and 15% for each child.
  • Proof of income sources such as savings, pension, or business income.
  • Health insurance and coverage in case of death.
  • Evidence of daily expenses being paid from the deposited funds (e.g., rent, electricity, groceries).
  • You must not leave Cyprus for more than 90 consecutive days.

Yellow Slip Visa

This visa is for EU or EFTA citizens who wish to live in Cyprus with their family members. It allows residence and work in Cyprus without restrictions, as long as minimum requirements are met.

Requirements include:

  • A permanent place of residence in Cyprus (rental or purchase agreement).
  • Opening a local bank account and depositing a certain amount of funds.
  • Proof of income source (salary, savings, pension, investments, etc.).
  • Valid health insurance certificate.

Starting a Business in Cyprus

Another option is to open a company in Cyprus. This typically requires depositing more than €200,000 into a local business bank account. In return, you and your family may be eligible for residence permits. It’s important to meet the specific conditions and investment requirements.

Work Visa

If you’ve secured a job offer in Cyprus that sponsors your work visa (and your family’s), that’s great! However, note that not all companies hire non-EU nationals. If you have found a job – well done!

Property Purchase Over €300,000 + VAT

Purchasing a property valued at over €300,000 (plus VAT) may entitle you to residency in Cyprus, although it does not grant the right to work. This type of residency allows you to live on the island and enroll your children in local schools.

Work Visas for Non-EU Nationals

Anyone wishing to work in Cyprus—whether for a company or as a self-employed individual—can apply for a work visa. This is suitable for those with a job offer from a Cypriot employer and the ability to prove a reliable income source.

Permanent Residency Visa

After several years of living in Cyprus, one can apply for permanent residency. There’s also a fast-track route through real estate investment, requiring the purchase of a property worth at least €300,000 (including VAT). This visa permits long-term residence, though not employment.

Digital Nomad Visa

This visa is designed for remote workers who generate income from outside Cyprus. It allows them to live on the island while managing their business remotely. Applicants must prove a stable income that supports independent living and remote work capabilities.
